The official Jewish festival; WJFF
With over sixteen official festivals, and more than sixty unofficial or themed ones worldwide, it is impossible to keep track of the Jewish film phenomenon. The San Francisco Jewish Festival is the oldest and largest of its kind. First launched in 1980, it screens about 60 films where 30,000 people attend. Yet, it is not the official Jewish film fest. It is here that the official festival, or as I like to call it, The ‘Emma’ festival, steps in: The Worldwide Jewish film festival (WJFF). This event gathers movies from the Jewish fests and combines them into a month-long screening.
